Welcome to Shachin High School

A school where children learn without fear, hold their heads high, and share knowledge beyond all walls and boundaries.

Shachin High School is a community-led school where girls and boys from nearby villages can learn, dream, and thrive, free from the constraints of geographic remoteness, limited material resources, or parents’ education and income. With highly motivated teachers, modest but steadily improving facilities, and strong support from local families and well-wishers across Bangladesh and abroad, we provide a safe, welcoming space for children to study, receive extra academic support, and build confidence for the future.

Who our students are

Most students at Shachin High School are first-generation learners. They come from farming and day-labour households where parents often had little or no opportunity to attend high school themselves. Despite limited income and the challenges of life in the haor, families send their children to us with a simple hope: that education will open doors to a safer, more dignified life.

Learning at Shachin High School

We welcome all students and support them in completing secondary education under Bangladesh’s national curriculum.

Alongside core subjects such as Bangla, English, mathematics, science, social science, religious and moral education, and physical education, we gradually introduce social and emotional skills, values and character, health and wellbeing, basic computer use, and simple financial literacy. Our focus is on strong foundations in reading, writing, and numeracy —especially for first-generation learners who may need extra support.

More than a school building

Shachin High School grew out of a simple but urgent question from parents in and around Sararkona: “Where will our children study after class five?” In this remote haor region, there was no secondary school within five kilometres, and many children—especially girls—had to stop after primary school.

Established by the Shachin Charitable Foundation in memory of Shachindra Mohan Roy Chowdhury, the school stands on family homestead land and has grown step by step with community support. Our guiding values include: access and inclusion for every child; dignity and safety in learning; community leadership; perseverance in the face of hardship; and transparent use of resources to prioritise  children’s learning and confidence.

How You Can Help

Shachin High School is a small, community-led school with modest resources but big ambitions for its students. Support from friends, family, and well-wishers in Bangladesh and abroad helps us keep education accessible for first-generation learners from disadvantaged households.

You can:
  • Sponsor a student’s schooling (fees books, uniforms, or exam costs).
  • Support classrooms, girls’ facilities, desks, books, and simple teaching aids.
  • Contribute to teacher support and training.
  • Share your time, skills or networks to help us reach more well-wishers.

Every contribution—large or small—helps a child from Sararkona and nearby villages stay in school, learn with confidence, and imagine a different future.
