Academic & Admissions Programs

Our Educational Program

At Shachin High School, we make a clear yet ambitious promise:
We welcome every student who is eager to learn, and we support them in completing their secondary education under the national curriculum of Bangladesh.

Our program follows the curriculum approved by the Government of Bangladesh, while going beyond academics to equip students with essential life skills. Alongside core subjects, we emphasize:

  • Social and emotional development
  • Computer literacy
  • Basic financial literacy

These practical skills prepare students not just for exams, but for real-world challenges and opportunities.

Government Curriculum

At Shachin High School , we follow the national curriculum to ensure our students can sit for government-recognized exams and compete on an equal footing with peers from any school in Bangladesh.

Our students study all core subjects required by the Bangladesh Government curriculum, including:

  • Bangla
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • General Science
  • Social Science (History, Geography, Civics)
  • Religious and Moral Education
  • Physical Education and Health
  • Additional approved subjects as the school expands

Classes are taught using government textbooks and guidelines. We place strong emphasis on reading, writing, and numeracy, particularly in the early years of secondary school, and provide extra support for students who need help mastering these foundational skills.

Learning Beyond the Textbook

Many of our students are first-generation learners, so we believe education must go beyond memorizing answers. At Shachin High School, we integrate activities that help children develop social, emotional, and practical life skills, including:

  • Social and emotional skills – understanding and managing emotions, building self-confidence, showing empathy, working in teams, resolving conflicts peacefully, and communicating respectfully.
  • Values and character – honesty, responsibility, respect for girls and boys equally, caring for younger children and the elderly, and contributing to the community.
  • Health and wellbeing – basic hygiene, nutrition, staying safe in the haor environment, and forming positive habits.

These skills are taught not only through formal lessons but also through group work, storytelling, role plays, games, and discussions woven into the school day.

Computer Literacy

Digital skills are becoming essential—even in remote villages. As our facilities and resources grow, we aim to introduce students to:

  • Basic computer parts and functions
  • Typing and simple word processing
  • Safe and responsible use of mobile phones and the internet
  • Using digital tools for learning (such as, educational videos or simple software)

Our goal is not to turn every child into an IT specialist, but to ensure that no student is left completely behind in the digital world.

Financial Literacy and Practical Skills

Many of our students come from households that rely on daily or seasonal income. Simple financial knowledge can make a real difference. As part of our extended learning program, we gradually introduce topics such as:

  • Saving small amounts regularly
  • Planning and managing a basic household budget
  • Understanding income, expenses, and the idea of investment
  • Avoiding harmful debt and risky financial schemes
  • Basic understanding of banking or mobile financial services where relevant

These lessons are practical and age-appropriate, often using real-life examples from village life. This approach helps students discuss these ideas with their parents and apply what they learn at home.

Support for Students

Many our students are the first in their families to attend high school, so they may need extra help at different stages. Shachin High School strives to provide:

  • Bridge support for students who are weak in reading, writing, or numeracy
  • Extra help classes before or after school, especially during exam periods
  • Encouragement and mentoring for girls who may face social pressure to drop out early
  • Close contact with parents, so that  challenges at home or school can be addressed promptly

Our goal is to ensure that joining Shachin High School is not the end of the struggle, but the beginning of stronger support for continuing education.

Admissions

Our Open-Door Policy

Shachin High School maintains an open and inclusive admissions policy.

  • We do not select students based on admission test scores or family background.
  • We welcome all children of appropriate age who wish to study and whose families are ready to support their schooling.
  • Priority is given to children from Sararkona and neighbouring villages, so that the school can serve the local community for whom it was created.

If a child has been out of school for some time or is older than typical for a class, we try—within our capacity—to place them at a suitable level and provide support so they can catch up.

How to Apply

Our admission process is simple and parent friendly:

  1. Visit the school during office hours to learn about classes, timings, and fees.
  2. Fill out the admission form (staff can assist if needed).
  3. Submit documents: birth certificate or age proof, transfer certificate, recent report card, and passport-sized photos.
  4. Start classes: We assign student to appropriate class and informs parents of the start date, class schedule, and any materials needed.
Fees, Scholarships, and Support

Shachin High School charges modest, transparent fees to help cover basic running costs. However, we recognise that many families struggle with cash income. With support from the Shachin Charitable Foundation and generous well-wishers:

  • We aim to keep fees as low as possible for all students.
  • We provide partial or full fee waivers for children from the poorest families, as resources allow.
  • We seek donations to cover books, uniforms, and exam fees for students who would otherwise be unable to continue.

Our guiding principle is simple:

No child should be turned away from Shachin High School solely because their family cannot afford the costs of schooling.
