Shachin Charitable Trust

Who we are

Shachin Charitable Trust for Education is a non-profit, non-political initiative dedicated to advancing education and student wellbeing in underserved communities. The Trust primarily supports Shachin High School in Sararkona (Madhyanagar, Sunamganj) and may also assist other education-focused initiatives that align with the Trust’s objectives.

The Trust was established to ensure that children in remote areas—especially first-generation learners—can continue their studies with dignity, safety, and hope for a better future.

Why the Trust exists

Shachin High School grew from a simple question from local parents:

“Where will our children study after Grade Five?”

In the haor region around Sararkona, distance, safety concerns, and household constraints often force children—particularly girls—to drop out after primary school. The Shachin Charitable Trust for Education exists to mobilize community and well-wisher support so that children can access secondary education close to home.

What we support

Guided by the Trust’s founding objectives, we support work such as:

Improving teaching and learning quality in schools and educational/vocational settings (including Shachin High School).
Recognising academic achievement and effort through prizes, awards, or learning support to encourage students.
Supporting teachers and learning resources (training, teaching aids, and practical learning materials).
Helping students develop beyond academics—including social and emotional skills, values, health and wellbeing, and confidence.
Promoting sports and healthy activities and encouraging discipline, responsibility, and civic values.

Where appropriate and feasible, the Trust may also support student accommodation or related facilities that help children stay in school.

How we are governed

The Trust is overseen by a Board of Trustees, which guides the Trust’s work and ensures activities remain aligned with its educational mission.

We follow simple, transparent governance practices, including:

Maintaining proper accounts and records
Operating bank accounts in the Trust’s name
Approving an annual budget (financial year July–June)
Conducting annual audits through an appointed auditor
Reviewing activity plans and financial statements in an annual meeting

Importantly, the Trust’s income and property are applied only to achieve the Trust’s educational objectives—never for private profit.

How you can support the Trust

Support from well-wishers in Bangladesh and abroad helps keep education accessible for children in Sararkona and neighbouring villages. You can help by:

Sponsoring a student (fees, books, uniforms, exam costs)
Supporting classrooms and facilities (desks, learning materials, girls’ space, basic improvements)
Contributing to teacher support and training
Sharing skills, networks, or volunteering time to strengthen the school community

Every contribution—large or small—helps children learn without fear, build confidence, and imagine a different future.
